Theoretically, you can buy at Walmart and sell on Amazon, but only if you pick brands that allow retailers to resell their products on Amazon. In that case, you must purchase products from Walmart, add Amazon labels, and ship them to the Amazon FBA center.

The biggest problem for me is that Walmart will not do any product preparation, such as labeling the carton with your FBA shipment.

Here are steps on how to buy on Walmart and sell on Amazon:

  1. Set up an Amazon Seller Account: To start with, you need to set up an Amazon Seller account. You can choose between an Individual or Professional account based on your needs. Individual accounts are free but come with a $0.99 fee per item sold, whereas Professional accounts cost $39.99/month but come with many benefits and are recommended for sellers who plan to sell more than 40 items a month.
  2. Find a Walmart Product to Sell:  Purchase the products from Walmart. Check do Walmart brand allows selling products on Amazon.
  3. Create a Product Listing: Next, you’ll create a listing for each product you sell. You must provide a product title, description, and high-quality photos. You’ll also choose relevant product categories and keywords to help customers find your product.
  4. Prepare Products for FBA: Amazon has specific requirements for preparing and packaging products for the FBA program. Remember these guidelines carefully to avoid any issues with your inventory.

My Opinion

I think buying products from Walmart and reselling them on Amazon is a bad idea. Here are some of the reasons why:

  • Walmart prices its products similar to Amazon. Usually, your shipping, labeling, and purchase cost can not be covered by selling profit each time.
  • Walmart does not offer the same level of preparation and labeling for Amazon FBA shipments. This means that your products may be mishandled or damaged during shipping, which could lead to negative customer reviews and lost sales. You can have damaged products and unplanned losses.
  • Retail arbitrage (in my case) is not profitable. Amazon sellers’ fees are very high.
  • If a customer or manufacturer complains, you can lose your Amazon seller account because of an Amazon penalty.

In short, several risks are associated with buying products from Walmart and reselling them on Amazon. It is not a reliable or sustainable way to build a successful Amazon business.
