How to Determine Door Swing? – Right Hand vs Left Hand Door

It’s inconvenient to order a door only to discover that the movable door springs are on the wrong side when it comes. Ordering the incorrect door is a costly error. The terminology used to describe a door’s hinge position are perplexing: left-handed and right-handed. They sound right, though, provided you follow the criteria indicated in the photographs. Position yourself with your back to the hinged jamb. It’s right-handed if the doorway is on your right. It’s a wing if the door is on your left.

How to Determine Door Swing? – Right Hand vs. Left Hand Door

If you stand in front of the door with your chest and with your right hand, you touch the door hinge, and with the left-hand door handle, you have a left-hand door and the door swing on your left. If you stand in front of the door and with your left hand, you touch the door hinge, and with the right hand, you touch the door handle, you have a right-hand door and the door swings on your right.

Nonetheless, the salesperson taking your purchase may be perplexed, notably if you order over the phone. Therefore, it is preferable to order your doors in person. Then, as if gazing from above, design an image and sketch inside the door frame and swing in direction. This prevents language misunderstanding and ugly conflicts if the request is entered incorrectly.
