Does Klarna Accept Netspend?

Unlike other popular credit and debit cards, such as Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, Klarna does not accept Netspend. The payment service provider has become increasingly popular due to its convenience and affordability. However, those wishing to use the service will have to find an alternate payment method if they possess a Netspend card.

Klarna is a Swedish fintech company founded in 2005 that provides customers with an alternative way of paying for their purchases by breaking payments into four interest-free installments. It also allows customers to spread payments over six months or longer, depending on their purchase amount. Apart from offering this payment option for online shoppers on merchant websites, Klarna offers direct financing for larger purchases like cars or furniture.

Klarna has gained tremendous traction since launching its services in the US in 2015 and now boasts over 9 million customers in the country who use it to make payments at thousands of online and offline retailers. The company’s website states customers can pay with major debit cards such as Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit, or American Express when purchasing through Klarna. Still, Netspend is notably absent from this list of accepted cards.

Netspend is a prepaid card that allows users to load money onto it before using it to make purchases, just like a regular debit card which can be used at any store that accepts it as a form of payment. While prepaid cards are becoming increasingly more accepted by merchants today, they are still not as widely accepted as traditional debit cards, so even if Klarna supported Netspend, they might not be widely accepted everywhere.

Klarna vs. Netspend

  • Klarna is a financial technology company based in Sweden, while Netspend is a prepaid debit card provider in the United States.
  • Klarna offers a “buy now, pay later” service that allows customers to split their purchases into multiple installments, while Netspend provides reloadable prepaid debit cards.
  • Klarna’s services are typically used for online shopping, while Netspend’s cards can be used online and in-person for purchases, ATM withdrawals, and other transactions.
  • Klarna partners with retailers to offer its payment options at checkout, while Netspend is available through partnerships with banks, employers, and other organizations.
  • Klarna charges interest on installment payments, while Netspend charges fees for various transactions, such as ATM withdrawals and balance inquiries.
  • Klarna allows customers to track their purchases and payments through its app, while Netspend provides an online account center for managing card balances and transactions.

It’s unclear why Klarna doesn’t support Netspend. Still, given how quickly the payment service provider has grown in popularity over the past few years, we expect them to expand its list of accepted payment methods soon enough. Until then, those wishing to use Klarna will have to find an alternative form of payment, such as Visa Debit or Mastercard Debit, if they don’t have one.
