In the United States and Puerto Rico, Penney OpCo LLC (previously known as JCPenney Company, Inc.), a mid-scale American department store chain, operates 669 shops in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Men’s, women’s, children’s, baby, bedding, home, fine jewelry, shoes, lingerie, The Salon by InStyle, Sephora within JCPenney, and numerous leased departments, such as Seattle’s Best Coffee, US Vision optical clinics, and Lifetouch image studios, are all available in JCPenney shops.

In the 1960s, as shopping malls became increasingly popular, JCPenney began moving and expanding stores to anchor these new retail centers. In recent times, JCP has established stores in power centers and standalone stores, often next to competitors. Since its inception as an Internet retailer in 1998. The firm has worked to simplify its catalog and delivery while also improving shop conditions. While under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Can 2020, JCPenney agreed to a deal in September 2020 to be purchased by Brookfield Asset Management and Simon Property Group. Within a few months, a bankruptcy court in Texas approved the purchase.

In 1961, the business opened its first full-line department store in a shopping mall. Audubon, New Jersey’s Black Horse Pike Center, was home to this retailer. After acquiring the General Merchandise Company in 1962, J. C. Penney entered bargain retail with The Treasury shops. Unfortunately, these price cuts were a failure, and they were shut down in 1981. The first J.C. Penney catalog was published in 1963. In-store catalog workstations were available in eight states for the corporation. The Milwaukee Catalog delivery facility was in charge of handing out the catalogs.
